The Complex E-commerce Value Chain Explained | Nexi | Nexi Roadshow: MPE Berlin
In another ‘Nexi Roadshow’ interview from our visit to MPE in Berlin, we spoke to Nexi Group CMO Martin Pitcock to find out their vision for e-commerce in the DACH region.
We find out about the complex e-commerce value chain… and the partnerships that make it happen.
It was great to catch up with Martin at the conference and as someone at the heart of Nexi Group, he was perfectly placed to tell us about the state of e-commerce in Europe. The conversation also sheds light on some significant partnerships they’ve embarked upon recently. Pitcock points out that Nexi prioritises identifying partners who have a genuine need for their solutions, emphasising mutual benefit over partner size.
This includes an exciting opportunity to bring Mastercard’s Open Banking capabilities to new markets in Europe. Clearly any partnership with the international card network is going to be big, and there are certainly some interesting things happening in the area of Open Banking that they are able to tap into. Adoption might have previously been slow but as Martin points out it’s beginning to pick up and as more people get on board the implications are massive.
At the heart of e-commerce are the widely used platforms that enable merchants to take an idea and run with it. Another notable partnership that was recently announced was between Nexi and WooCommerce. This capitalises on the platform’s global reach and community driven approach in order to offer users a wider range of payment options at checkout and provides a lot more flexibility to mid-market merchants who want to remain accessible to their customers.
We also hear his thoughts on what merchants need from their financial institutions in the current economic climate and the impact of changing consumer habits. To adapt to this Nexi adds diverse payment methods and seeks partnerships to cover the entire e-commerce payment flow, from conversion to fraud management. Initiatives for merchants include reducing fraud, expediting settlements, and offering merchant cash advances to enhance cash flow and security.
It’s a great conversation that really unveils how many stakeholders are involved in the payments value chain. It works because of those partnerships and that’s what Nexi are looking to establish more of in the DACH region.
Through this interview hopefully you’ll gain a better understanding of where the Nexi Group fits into this wider ecosystem. Be sure to check out our other videos from the MPE leg of the Roadshow and keep an eye out for future ‘Nexi Roadshow’ content!
