DACH Region Is Poised for Positive Payments Change | PPRO | Nexi Roadshow: MPE Berlin

The DACH region is poised for positive payments change, driven forward by strategic partnerships.

It’s an exciting time for payments and E-Commerce in DACH, which is why Nexi have launched the Nexi Roadshow, where we’re attending tech conferences across the region to find out what’s happening directly from the experts.

At MPE in Berlin we spoke to James Booth, VP of Account Management at PPRO, to get his thoughts on payment methods in the DACH region and the vital role partnerships play in successful E-Commerce

In this latest interview you can expect a fascinating conversation that provides all the context you need to better understand what’s happening in the region.

Booth oversees PPRO’s European-based clients, which includes PSPs, acquirers, and gateways, and helps them gain access to local payment methods. Therefore he’s perfectly placed to discuss what’s going on in this area. There is definitely a rich ecommerce landscape here, as identified in Nexi’s own report in 2022. Of course to sustain the habits of an entire region, merchants need easy access to the latest payment methods to accommodate the needs of customers.

Booth elaborates on the unique payment landscape in the DACH region, highlighting its fragmentation. The thing is each country has its own set of preferred payment methods, such as bank transfers, e-wallets, and increasingly, Buy Now Pay Later options. He emphasizes the importance of understanding these nuances for merchants aiming to operate effectively in the region.

The conversation delves into the challenges merchants face in navigating this complex market. There is of course a need for simplicity in payment solutions to streamline the checkout process for consumers. He acknowledges that the payment industry often overcomplicates matters for merchants, citing the multitude of terms used to describe similar payment methods, which can sometimes hinder decision-making.

But according to Booth, the future of e-commerce in the DACH region is bright. He notes the market’s growth and the emergence of new payment methods, such as the huge uptake of alternative payment method Twint in Switzerland. Apparently, the people of Switzerland used TWINT to execute a total of 590 million transactions in 2023. Booth predicts a shift towards more advanced payment offerings, such as recurring payments and accounts on file functionalities.

There’s also plenty of talk about partnerships and how integral they are to making all of this work. The conversation concludes with a focus on the partnership between PPRO and Nexi, highlighting PPRO’s role as an infrastructure provider for PSPs and acquirers. Booth emphasizes PPRO’s commitment to staying abreast of the latest payment trends and technologies, thereby enabling partners like Nexi to offer in-demand payment solutions to their merchants. Ultimately though the relationship between partners is holistic and collaborative. It’s a situation where both parties engage in open dialogue to address challenges and drive mutual growth and innovation within the payments industry.

It’s a very optimistic and positive chat and we hope you enjoy it. Be sure to check out our other conversations from the Nexi Roadshow in Berlin.
